Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has been alerted by the Union Home Ministry, led by Amit Shah, to restrict his travel activities due to exceeding the stipulated limit for the year. This marks the first instance of a Governor in West Bengal receiving such a directive from the Ministry of Home. Governor Bose has completed 73 inter-state trips this year, prompting the ministry to notify Raj Bhavan officials of the need to monitor his travel.
The decision comes just ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Kolkata. The directive now requires Governor CV Ananda Bose to obtain permission from Delhi before traveling outside Kolkata or West Bengal to other states for the remainder of the year. This means that he will need approval even for trips to Kerala, where he frequently conducts religious ceremonies.
Governor Bose's numerous travel routes, including Kerala-Delhi-Kolkata and Kolkata-Delhi-Kerala, have raised concerns over excessive expenses borne by the exchequer. His frequent trips to the same locations within a short timeframe have contributed to exceeding his travel quota.
In addition to visiting other states, Governor Bose has traveled extensively within West Bengal, and three travel agencies are engaged to facilitate his travel bookings and arrangements. The alert from the Union Home Ministry emphasizes the need for prudence in future travel plans.
